As many as 10 million Americans a year are victims of identity theft. The average number of hours victims spend repairing the damage caused by identity theft is 330 hours. One third of victims have to send dispute information repeatedly to credit reporting agencies. Linda Pruss, Security Engineer from the Office of Campus Information Security at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, presents the basics of internet security, identity protection, and good online business practices including how to use social networking tools (facebook, twitter, etc.) and browse securely.
About our Speaker—Linda Pruss has worked Division of Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since June, 1990. She has worked in various capacities for the Division most recently as a security engineer in the Office of Campus Information Security. Linda is charged with leading the research, development and support of endpoint security technologies, strong authentication and technical security assessments.
Prior to joining the Division, Linda worked in various consulting capacities for Grant Thornton and Arthur Andersen & Co. Linda has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Illinois-Champaign and a BS in Applied Computer Science and Accounting from Illinois State University. As part of her continuing education, she has collected various certifications including the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Certified Netware Engineer (CNE), and Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) designations and most recently Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP).
